Holdin' On...

I hope you are well?
If you are not feeling so bright and bubbly I think this mix will bring you some comfort and help you forget about those pressing issues that we all have to deal with.
In this third episode Holdin’ On is the title taken from the Champion Soul track which features midway in this mix. It appealed to me as it describes perfectly how I was feeling emotionally around the time but what kept coming back to me is that even though I felt alone sometimes I wasn't really all by myself, knowing from the Word that 'he'll never leave me or forsake me' and how ever mournful one can get privately, I understand that those tears I've cried in the past are being turned into tears of glorious joy. Along with a soul passion for the love of music and my faith the session came together with a sense of luminous colour and depths of shade thankfully conquered by the energy and feel good vibe of it all. I can't speak for anyone else but as a DJ I'm sure one’s emotions dictate the atmosphere when we're working – however professional a set one pulls it off. I hope all of mine gigs have left people with a good feeling.
Anyway, it was some months ago when I did this mix which has grown to become quite popular from the feedback I've had from cd's that I’d given out here and there, so I thought I distribute further a field. Naturally, the playlist is included for your convenience.

Welcome to my second podcast instalment.
Creating something a little different to stand out amongst the whole host of music that is so out there and more to the point so easy to get hold of for free could have been viewed as rather daunting, but rather than looking at the odd pitfalls at how the state of music and technology has created its own monster, I thought, this can all be turned to one's advantage. Embracing it all and using it positively now surely that is the way to move forward?
I love music. Out of which I have a style that some have said is edgy but never boring and never do I stay in one place when I take the ingredients of good music splice one track into another to birth something refreshing to the ears with plenty of guts and spice.
Which brings me nicely onto the playlist attached to this selection originally a dedication to a good friend of mine Basil aka Basil Funkib from twelvehandzradio.com.
Like some of my friends, Basil inspired me from a dancer’s point of view, aside from being a lover of good music when I compiled this mix. Going back into the music library I briefly journeyed into an era of classic fusion tracks like Wayne Henderson's "Lady Bug" as well as including the jazz funk-like tones from Eddie Russ’s “Take A Look At Yourself”. For me, I could see in my mind how they connected well with 21 century artists such as Femi Temowa and Timo Lassy who in their own way are flying the flag of appreciation with their work clearly motivated by of all the golden qualities gone before them with genres of funk, Afro, gospel, jazz, soul, disco or Latin . For me all of these styles are a part of me and who I became growing up with the inclusion of reggae – how could I forget that! Getting to that point and the person of who I am now, I also feel that someone such as Basil has also shown that he too has moved with the times – embracing the good and discarding all the rubbish take a specially trained ear and a certain amount of motivation aligned to some hard core dedication. Taking on many so called new genres - broken beat, funky house bashment, grime, hip hop, dubstep and all the others splinter groups of dance – really a melting pot and mix of what most of us already like in Black music. Everything has just gone full circle. Well, much like this mix, I made a decision to give you a taste of some of those differing hybrids yet remain true to my roots by giving you a selection that is not only by its nature inspirational, it has soul feeling and passion as well as elements of jazz and the all important maintenance of a funky groove.
I hope you will agree with me and dig it as much as I enjoyed in putting it altogether.
